Will the train to LA really be built?

Yes, the high-speed train connecting Las Vegas to Southern California is really being built. Brightline West is under active construction and targets a late 2029 opening for a 218-mile, all-electric line cutting the drive from about five and a half hours to roughly two hours and ten minutes. The Las Vegas station sits just south of the Strip, a story worth following for every California buyer and Las Vegas investor.

What is the latest on the project?

Brightline West broke ground in April 2024 and is now in civil construction, with work well underway on the Las Vegas side. The budget has grown from about $12 billion to roughly $21.5 billion, supported in part by a $3 billion federal grant, and the target opening moved from earlier dates to late 2029. Brightline's Florida line filed for bankruptcy in 2026, but the company says the two are separate operations and the Vegas project carries on. The honest summary: construction is real, and the schedule has slipped once, so treat 2029 as a goal rather than a guarantee.

Where exactly does it stop?

The Las Vegas station will sit on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard between Blue Diamond Road and Warm Springs Road, across from the Las Vegas South outlet mall on a roughly 110-acre site. That corner of Enterprise is also planned for a 20,000-seat arena and a sports and entertainment district, so the area is being built around transit. The train will make intermediate stops at Victor Valley and Hesperia before ending in Rancho Cucamonga, where passengers connect to Metrolink for the final leg into Los Angeles. At speeds up to 200 mph, the projected trip is about two hours and ten minutes.

What does this mean for Las Vegas real estate?

For buyers and investors, the rail is a long-term demand story. The Nevada DMV counted 33,296 Californians moving to Nevada in 2025, and a predictable two-hour ride gives that pipeline another reason to keep flowing: remote workers, second-home owners, and investors gain a practical home base near California without California's prices or income tax. Expect the strongest effects near the station: new condominiums, rental demand in Enterprise and the south valley, and land-value gains along the corridors. None of that changes the fall 2026 math, where inventory keeps climbing and the median single-family home sits around $470,000; it does strengthen the long view.

The bottom line

Do not buy a home purely on a train schedule: timelines slip, and the right home is the one that fits your life and budget today. But the rail is genuine, the tracks are being built, and it reinforces the case for the long-term health of the Las Vegas market. Whether you are relocating from California, buying a second home, or investing, I would love to help you run the numbers. I am persistent, I communicate well, I am fair, and I have the patience to always close the deal.

Talk to you again soon,
Thanks,
Martin
